Supporting Malaysia's tourism industry towards a safe reopening

Nov. 28 2022

In 2021, Travel Safe Alliance Malaysia (TSAM), an alliance that comprises Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), Malaysian Association of Tour & Travel Agents (MATTA), Malaysian Association of Convention & Exhibition Organizers & Suppliers (MACEOS), and Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), was formed to lead the efforts in reopening Malaysia as a travel-safe destination post Covid-19.

Being Malaysia’s travel, tourism and business event industry leaders, they understood the importance of following the appropriate health, safety, and hygiene procedures to gain trust and confidence from the travellers. They knew that the only way they could tell the world that Malaysia is safe and ready to welcome travellers is through Bureau Veritas.

To support TSAM meeting their objectives, Bureau Veritas Malaysia (BV Malaysia) collaborated with them under the Restart Your Business with BV programme. BV Malaysia not only set up the audit checklist according to each industry’s specific needs, we also conducted the independent assessment and certification of all stakeholders in order to maintain the complete ecosystem of safe travel that TSAM and its members were committed in pursuing.

Upon the successful completion of the programme, BV Malaysia had the opportunity to meet the leaders from TSAM where they sat down with us to share their thoughts about this partnership.

The aviation industry was one of the most badly affected, if not the most affected, by the pandemic. Lau Yin May, Group Chief Marketing & Customer Experience Office of Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB), said that although the borders started to reopen, there were still a lot of consumers who delayed or cancelled their trips due to uncertainties they have about travelling. However, with the certification in place, it is very helpful not just to the organisation but also to the consumers. She said “It really helps us to build the trust and confidence amongst our consumers that we follow very stringent safety and hygiene protocols in all our operations.”

Meanwhile, having been forced to close during the pandemic, the hotel industry was already facing enormous losses. They needed proper guidelines to resume their operations in a safe manner so that travellers can have a peace of mind. With BV Malaysia’s support, MAH member hotels now have a comprehensive audit checklist. MAH President, Christina Toh, is pleased with the result. “The established and comprehensive audit checklist that have been initiated for our hotel association gives complete assurance to the visitors visiting our country.”

We are delighted to hear such kind words from our clients. We cannot be more proud to have played a role in helping the industry to reopen safely.
