BV Philippines’ Rieanne Angelic Velasco delivered a talk at the Solar & Storage Live Philippines 2025 held at SMX Convention Centre 

BV Philippines’ Rieanne Angelic Velasco, PEE, SEA Technical Leader for Solar and BESS, delivered a talk at the Solar & Storage Live Philippines 2025 held at SMX Convention Centre in Manila, Philippines. 

In her presentation entitled “Large Scale Solar and Batteries as the New Baseload Power; Can it be the Game-Changer in Energy Transition”, she discussed challenges surrounding solar power in the Philippines in playing a larger role as a baseload energy source. While solar has seen significant growth, technical limitations around storage and intermittency, as well as commercial factors like high upfront costs, have prevented it from fully replacing traditional baseload generation from fossil fuels. 

Overcoming these challenges through innovations in storage, grid integration, and financing will be critical for solar energy to reach its full potential as a reliable, round-the-clock power supply in the Philippines.
